2027 numerology: the year of the master number 11, and your personal year

At some point every autumn, people begin to ask me about next year. Not in a worried way, mostly. More the way you look at a new notebook before you write in it: what will this one hold, and who will I be by the last page?

2027 already has a very particular feeling around it, and numerology helps explain why. Add up its digits and you arrive at 11, one of the master numbers. In this letter I tell you what an 11 year has always been said to bring, how to find your own personal year number for 2027, and how to begin meeting the year now, before it has even started.

What does 2027 mean in numerology?

In numerology a year is read by adding its digits: 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 makes 11. Eleven is a master number of intuition, inspiration and thresholds, so 2027 is a year to trust what you sense and step through a door that has been waiting for you. Reduced once more, 11 becomes 2: partnership and patience.

Older than any of us

The idea that numbers have a character is very old. The followers of Pythagoras, more than two and a half thousand years ago, treated numbers as qualities as much as quantities: one was the beginning, two was relationship, and every number after carried a nature of its own. Adding up the digits of a date to find its number is much younger, set down by numerologists around 1900, but it rests on that same old instinct.

Eleven has a lovely story of its own. In the Gospel of Matthew there is a parable about a vineyard owner who hires workers all through the day, the last of them at the eleventh hour, when the day is almost over. When the wages are paid, the ones who came at the eleventh hour receive a full day's pay. That is where the phrase "the eleventh hour" comes from, and I have always loved what sits underneath it: it is not too late. Whatever you have been waiting to begin, the eleventh hour still counts in full.

What an 11 year asks of you

Numerologists read an 11 year as charged and inspired: ideas arrive faster, intuition speaks louder, and chance meetings feel less like chance. The last two came in 2009 and 2018, and the next will be 2036. If you look back at your own life in those years, you may notice a door that opened, or a moment when you finally listened to yourself.

Because 11 also carries the 2, it is a year for partnership too: the right collaborator, the friendship that deepens, the love that asks for honesty. The gift of an 11 year is that your inner voice is easier to hear. The work of it is to act on what you hear, gently and in good time.

How to find your personal year number for 2027

The year number belongs to everyone, but your personal year is yours alone. To find it, add the digits of your birth day, your birth month and 2027, and keep adding until one digit is left. Born on 14 March? Then 1 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 makes 19, then 1 + 9 makes 10, and 1 + 0 makes 1: 2027 is a personal year 1 for you. Born on 25 December? Then 2 + 5 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 0 + 2 + 7 makes 21, and 2 + 1 makes 3.

Here is what I believe, and what I work with: what you hold in your mind with feeling, you draw towards you. A new year is a perfect canvas for that, because you can meet it before it arrives.

Take a sheet of paper and date it 31 December 2027. Then write yourself a short letter as if the whole year has already happened, and happened well. Where are you living? What did you finally begin? Who sat at your table? How does your body feel, and what did you stop apologising for? Write it in the past tense, as fact, and let yourself feel the pride and the ease of it while you write.

Then choose one word for 2027, a word that would make that letter true: brave, open, rooted, home, seen. Put it somewhere you will meet it every day. An 11 year rewards the people who listen, so keep listening to your word, and do one small thing each week that belongs to it.
