New moon in Scorpio, 9 November 2026: plant your intention deep

New Moon Intention Ritual by Ivy Veil

On Monday 9 November 2026 the moon is new in Scorpio. The sky goes dark for a night, the old cycle closes, and a new one begins. If something in you has been waiting to start, this is a quiet and powerful moment to plant it.

This new moon has a character of its own, and I want to tell you about it, because it asks for something different than the bright, quick beginnings of spring.

The short answer

The new moon in Scorpio is a moon for depth. It favours intentions about transformation, honesty, intimacy and letting something old die so that something truer can grow. Because Mercury and Venus are both still retrograde until 13 November, it is a moon to plant, not to push: set your intention now, and let it root before you act.

Older than any of us

People have begun things at the new moon for as long as there have been calendars. The Islamic months still begin when the first thin crescent is sighted after the new moon. In the Jewish tradition there is a blessing for the moon, Kiddush Levanah, said outdoors in the days after it returns, often with a little dance on the toes towards the sky. In the British Isles people bowed to the new moon and turned the coins in their pockets so that their money would grow as the moon grew.

What all of them share is trust. Nobody could see the moon on the night it was new. They began anyway, knowing it would return.

Why Scorpio asks for depth

Scorpio is the water sign of the deep places: what is hidden, what is intense, what is real underneath the polite surface. A Scorpio new moon is not interested in small wishes. It asks what you are ready to transform. A habit you have outgrown. A relationship that needs more honesty. A fear about money you have carried for too long. Plant your intention there, at the root, and it tends to hold.

With Mercury retrograde in Scorpio as well, words matter more than usual. Write your intention slowly, and reread it before you trust it. With Venus retrograde in Libra, old loves and old questions about your worth may still be stirring. If one of them is on your mind, let your intention be about you, not about them.

How to write an intention that holds

Choose one intention, not ten. Write it in the present tense, as if it is already true: "I speak honestly in my relationship and I am heard", rather than "I hope he will listen". Keep it about your own life. And feel it. See it in detail, feel what it is like to live inside it, the calm, the relief, the pride. What you hold in your mind with feeling, you draw towards you like a magnet. That is the heart of the law of attraction, and of every new moon custom there is.

See it, feel it, draw it in

On the day of the new moon, light one candle and pour a glass of water. Write your intention on a slip of paper and read it aloud once, slowly. Close your eyes and stand inside it until you can feel it. Fold the paper towards you, the old sign of drawing something in, and keep it somewhere private until the full moon of 24 November. The next day, take one small step that the person in your intention would take.

At my table

On every new moon I hold the New Moon Intention Ritual at my table for everyone who has asked. Your intention goes on paper beside mine, a candle burns, and I hold it until it feels rooted. Orders for this new moon close on Sunday 8 November, and your written report reaches you the day after the new moon, telling you what I felt and what to watch for as it grows.

What came back to my table

I am grateful for every word that comes back to me after a reading. These are two of them.

"was such a detailed reading that was so fabulous and brought tears to my eyes. I am very grateful and I highly recommend."

Questions people ask me about the November new moon

When is the new moon in November 2026?

On Monday 9 November 2026, in Scorpio.

What should I manifest on a Scorpio new moon?

Something deep: a transformation, more honesty or intimacy, a fresh start with money, the end of a habit. Scorpio rewards intentions that go to the root.

Is it a bad idea to set intentions while Mercury is retrograde?

Not at all. Retrogrades are good for planting and reflecting. Write your intention with care, let it root, and act on it once Mercury turns direct on 13 November.

Can you hold my intention for me?

Yes. I hold the New Moon Intention Ritual at my table on the day of the new moon. Orders close on Sunday 8 November.

Nothing is promised or guaranteed: this is spiritual guidance, alongside good advice and never instead of it. Your own choices remain the strongest force.

With love from my table,
