The sky is the first thing I look at, every single day.
Weather witch
I am Ivy, and I have been the weather witch for more than 1,500 wedding days and big days. A bride, a sister or a mother hands me a date, a place and a forecast she cannot bear to look at anymore, and asks me to hold the sky for her. I light a candle for that day, speak it into being at my table, and write back, so she can close the weather app and start looking forward again.
This page is everything I would tell you if you sat down across from me: what a weather witch is, where the tradition comes from, what I actually do for your day, what I will never promise, and how to book me.
What is a weather witch?
A weather witch is someone who works with the weather through ritual and intention. Not a forecaster, and not a sorceress who orders the clouds about, but someone who takes one day under one sky and holds it with her full attention: your names, your date, your place, and the picture of that day going well. People ask a weather witch for sunshine on a wedding day, a dry hour for the photographs, a calm sea for a crossing, a clear night for a festival.
These days most people meet their weather witch the way they met me: on Etsy, somewhere in the final weeks before the wedding, when the forecast turns grey. It has become such a familiar part of wedding planning that newspapers and magazines write about brides who hire a witch for their weather. What they rarely write about is why it helps, even for people who are not sure what they believe. That part I can tell you.
An old trade, and a long line of women who asked the sky
Weather witches are much older than the internet. In 1555 the Swedish writer Olaus Magnus described the wind-sellers of Finland, who sold sailors a leather thong tied with three magic knots: untie the first and a gentle wind came, the second brought a stronger one, the third a storm. When Sir Walter Scott visited Stromness on Orkney in 1814, he met a woman of more than ninety who made her living selling favourable winds to the sailors in the harbour, and she found her way into his novel The Pirate. And in the early ninth century an archbishop of Lyon was already writing against the villagers who believed in the tempestarii, the weather-makers who could bring on the hail.
I do not sell wind in knots, and I am glad nobody has ever asked me for a storm. But I like knowing that when I light a candle for your wedding day, I sit in a very long line of women who were asked to be kind to the sky on someone else's behalf.
Why brides hire a weather witch
Almost nobody comes to me certain that a ritual will move a rain front. They come because the forecast has quietly taken over the wedding. The seating plan is done, the flowers are ordered, the photographer is booked, and still every conversation ends in the same place: and what if it rains?
A weather witch gives that worry somewhere to go. Someone takes the sky off your list and holds it for you, on purpose and with care. Brides tell me the calm arrives the moment they read my report, often days before the weather does.

What I do as your weather witch
-
You tell me about the day
Your names, the date, the place as precisely as you like, and what the day means to you. The more you share, the more of your day there is on my table.
-
I hold your ritual the same day
Your names and date go on paper in my handwriting, beside a candle. I speak your day aloud in the present tense, as if it is already happening: the dry path to the ceremony, the light on your faces, the photographs in soft sun. And I stay with that feeling until it is whole.
-
I write to you
Your report arrives the same day, written for you alone: what I sensed around your day, the sky as it came to me, and one sentence to say whenever the worry comes back.
-
And I stay with you
Afterwards I check in with you, you receive my small guide After Your Reading, and I love hearing afterwards how your day was.
If you want to see it step by step, I wrote about how I do a weather spell as an Etsy witch.
What couples write to their weather witch afterwards
★★★★★The 100% rain chance for my wedding day turned into nothing and it was a beautiful blue sky day while a lot of other areas in the state got record flooding.
Cara · Etsy, September 2026
★★★★★There was rain forecasted for the whole day for my best friend's wedding so I figured I would give this a try! The weather cleared up just in time for her first look and ceremony. The amazing bonus was that there was a gorgeous rainbow that came out during cocktail hour.
Kelsi · Etsy, September 2026
★★★★★From thunderstorm warning and 100% rain forecast to the perfect break in the rain while we walked to the registry!!
Nicola · Etsy, August 2026
★★★★★Ivy put so much thought, care and passion into her spell and it WORKED.
Ella · Etsy, September 2026
★★★★★It did rain for a minute but it was well after the ceremony and the pictures were done.
Danielle · Etsy, September 2026
★★★★★Highly recommend Ivy to anyone planning a wedding and worried about the forecast for their day!

What a weather witch cannot do
I cannot command the weather, and I will never tell you I can. Anyone who guarantees you sunshine is selling something that is not theirs to sell. What I can do is hold your day with my whole attention and give you a report that lets you walk towards it in trust instead of vigilance. Sometimes it still rains for a moment: after the ceremony, between the photographs, a soft shower that nobody minds. I love those letters just as much.
If your report did not land the way you hoped, tell me within seven days and I put it right. And whatever the sky does, your own choices remain the strongest force: the plan B marquee, the umbrellas in your colours, the decision to dance anyway.
How to choose a weather witch
Whether you book me or someone else, look for reviews that talk about weather and weddings, not only about readings; someone who has done this many times and says so plainly; a real person who writes back; something in writing for your day rather than a one-line "done"; and honesty about what cannot be promised. Be careful with anyone who guarantees sunshine, talks about curses, or asks for more money after the day.
I wrote a longer guide on how to choose a weather witch, and an honest answer to the question do Etsy weather witches actually work?
When to book your weather witch
Two to four weeks before the day is the sweet spot: your report has time to settle in you, and you walk into the final week lighter. Most people find me in the last week, when the forecast appears, and that is fine too. Even the day before is not too late, because your ritual is held on the day you order and your report arrives that same day.
Where you are does not matter. My table is in the Netherlands and the days I hold are everywhere: a two-day wedding in Todi in Italy, a ceremony right on the coast, a honeymoon on safari. Your report comes in English, German, Dutch, French or Spanish.
For every kind of day
Couples are most of my weather work, but not all of it. I hold the sky for festivals and garden parties, proposals and photoshoots, christenings, the family weekend that happens once a year, and the trip you saved for. A lot of it is a gift: sisters, best friends and mothers of the bride order in their own name and give me someone else's date. All of those days have their own weather spell page.
And if you wonder why I do this with so much joy, I wrote about why I love being a weather witch.

Questions about weather witches
What is a weather witch?
A weather witch is someone who works with the weather through ritual and intention, holding one day under one sky with her full attention. Today most people hire a weather witch for their wedding day, usually when the forecast turns.
Can a weather witch really change the weather?
No honest weather witch will promise you that, and I never do. I hold your day at my table and write you a report that gives your worry somewhere to go; what couples describe afterwards, you can read in my reviews.
How much does a weather witch cost?
Prices vary a lot. My Good Weather Ritual, held the same day with a written report, costs €8.88, and The Perfect Wedding, with the Marriage Blessing, a Wedding Day Reading and honeymoon weather, costs €27.77.
Are you the Etsy weather witch?
Yes. My good weather ritual was ordered more than 1,500 times in my Etsy shop, IvyVeilReadings, where it holds a 5.0 rating. Etsy no longer lists rituals like this one, so it lives here now, on my own site.
When should I book a weather witch for my wedding?
Two to four weeks before is ideal, but the last week or even the day before works too: your ritual is held the same day you order and your report arrives the same day.
Can I hire a weather witch for someone else's wedding?
Yes, many people do. Order in your own name and give me the couple's names, their date and their place; you can forward the report or keep it as a quiet gift.
Do you need to be near my wedding?
No. My table is in the Netherlands and I hold days all over the world. Tell me the place as precisely as you like: the town, the venue, the garden.
What if it rains anyway?
Then it rains, and I am sorry, because I wanted the sun for you too. A ritual is not a guarantee; if your report did not land the way you hoped, tell me within seven days and I put it right.
One last thing
Let me be your weather witch
You have enough to carry between now and your day. Put the sky down for a while and let me hold it. I will do it with my whole heart, and I would love to hear afterwards how it was.
Ivy
My rituals and reports are offered as spiritual guidance and for entertainment purposes; nothing is promised or guaranteed, and your own choices remain the strongest force. You must be 18 or older to order.
