What are angel numbers?

Angel numbers are repeating numbers that seem to find you: 11:11 on the clock, 444 on a receipt, the same 1212 on a number plate and a front door in one week. Many people see them as small messages that ask for a moment of attention, whether they feel those messages come from their angels, their guides, a loved one in spirit or their own deeper knowing. The meanings come from numerology, the old tradition of reading numbers for their character, and from what people all over the world have come to feel about them. I read them as a tap on the shoulder: not an order and not a prediction, but an invitation to look at what you were already half thinking about.

Why do I keep seeing the same number?

Partly because you notice it: once a number means something to you, it stands out wherever it appears. But that is exactly how a sign works. The number arrives in a week when something in you is ready to be looked at: a decision you keep postponing, a relationship at a turning point, a change you have been calling "one day". When the same number finds you three times in a short while, stop and ask yourself what you were thinking about the moment before you saw it. That thought is usually the answer.

How to read a number that is not in my guide

Every angel number is made of digits, and every digit has its own meaning; you will find them all above. Read the digits first. Then notice what repeats: a digit said twice or three times is turned up, like a word spoken louder. Notice the shape: a mirror number such as 1221 or 1441 speaks of reflection and balance, and a counting number such as 1234 of steps taken in order. Finally, add the digits together until one number is left: that is the heart of the message. The lookup at the top of this page does all of this for you, for any number up to eight digits.

Your angel number and your date of birth

In numerology, the digits of your date of birth added together give your life path number, the number that is said to walk with you through your whole life. Many people see it as their personal angel number, and it often turns out to be a number they have always liked or kept noticing. The master numbers 11, 22 and 33 are not reduced any further, because they are read as a stronger, more awake form of 2, 4 and 6. What to do when a number finds you

Stop for one breath. Notice where you are and what you were thinking. Look the number up, read its meaning, and take one small step in the direction it points, the same day if you can. If you like a small ritual: light a candle, hold a glass of water, say one sentence about what you want in the present tense, as if it is already so, and drink the water.
