Cord cutting ritual: what it is, how it feels afterwards, and what to call in next

Ivy at her table with candles and dried roses, for a letter about cord cutting

You know the tie is still there. You feel it when their name comes up, when you drive past the old street, when your thumb hovers over a profile you promised yourself you would stop opening. It has been months, maybe years, and part of your energy still lives at an address you moved out of long ago.

If that is where you are right now, this letter is for you. It tells you what a cord cutting ritual is, where it comes from, what I do when you hand me yours, how people feel afterwards, and the part most articles forget: what to call in once the space is free.

What is a cord cutting ritual?

A cord cutting ritual, also called a cord cutting spell, releases the tie between you and a person, a chapter or a habit, from your own side. Your name and what you release go on paper, a candle is lit, and the release is spoken as already done. Your energy comes home, and the other person stays free.

Older than any of us

People have always had ceremonies for letting go. In Kyoto there is a shrine, Yasui Konpira-gu, with a great stone covered in thousands of white paper slips. You write on a slip what you want to be free of, crawl through the opening in the stone to cut the old tie, and crawl back the other way to tie a good one. People still queue to pass through it. In Ecuador and much of Latin America, the old year is burned at midnight on 31 December as a figure stuffed with paper, and with it everything that should stay behind. Handwritten letters that are never sent, stones thrown into moving water, a lock of hair cut at the end of mourning: every culture knows that an ending needs a gesture.

What I love about the Kyoto stone is that it has two directions. First you release. Then you turn around and call in. A cord cutting done well always has both.

What I do at my table

When you order a Cord Cutting Spell, I write your name and your date of birth on paper, and beside them, in your own words, what you are releasing. I light a candle for you and speak the intention aloud: release from your side, your energy returned to you, peace where the pull used to be. Then I stay in the quiet with you alone, until it feels held.

Afterwards I write your report from my notes: how I prepared your ritual, what I worked with and why, what I noticed while your release was held in the light, how to receive this energy, and a few small gestures to carry with you for the days when the old pull returns. It reaches you the same day, and afterwards I check in with you. You can always reply to my e-mail: I read it and answer you.

How it feels afterwards

Most people describe the first days with the same few words: lighter, quieter, more room. Some feel a soft tiredness, the kind that comes after putting something heavy down. Some cry once, properly, and then feel clear. Some notice nothing at all until the day a song comes on and, for the first time, it is only a song. All of these are the same thing happening at different speeds. Letting go is a direction you choose again on the harder days, and the ritual is a strong beginning of that direction. And if 999 keeps finding you while you let go, my letter on angel number 999 is about exactly this kind of ending.

See it, feel it, draw it in

Now the second direction of the stone. Here is what I believe, and what I work with every day: what you hold in your mind with feeling, you draw towards you, the way a magnet does. That is the heart of the law of attraction, and it is why an empty space should be given a picture as soon as it is free.

So on the day your report arrives, light a candle and pour a glass of water. Close your eyes and see an ordinary Tuesday in the life you are walking towards: who is at the table, how your shoulders feel, what you are looking forward to. Stay inside it until you can feel it in your body. Then say one sentence aloud, in the present tense: my energy is mine, and it goes where I am loved. Drink the water. Come back to it whenever the old pull returns. Your choices are where your power lives, and this is the first of them.

What came back to my table

I am grateful for every letter that comes back after a ritual. Here are three of them, in the words they were written in.

"She helped me shift from fear to trust, from bracing to allowing myself to relax."

Lindsay, August 2026

"An absolute angel. She is thoughtful And so kind, took her time to really explain each step, and I've seen shifts since working with her."

shellsbells, September 2026

"Ivy's gentle words and guidance has helped me through an emotionally turbulent time in my life."

Pam, August 2026

The release was theirs. I held it with all my attention, and they did the walking.

What goes well with it

After a release, many people like their own field cleared and protected while the new chapter begins. Add the Protection Spell & Aura Cleanse to the same order and it is half price, applied automatically at checkout. And if several things are ending and beginning at once, Fresh Start holds the release, the open road and the protection together at one price. You will find all my rituals for a clear, light field on my protection spell page.

Questions people ask me about cord cutting

Is a cord cutting ritual only about me?

Yes. The ritual is held for you: your energy, your peace, your next step. I only ever work on your side of the tie, so the other person stays free, and so do you.

Can I cut a cord with someone I still see, like a co-parent or a colleague?

Yes. The ritual releases the pull and the old charge, and leaves the practical contact where it is. Many people tell me those meetings feel calmer afterwards, because they arrive with their energy at home.

Can I release a habit or a chapter instead of a person?

Yes. A job that ended, a home you left, a version of yourself you have outgrown. Write it in your own words, and that is what goes on the paper.

What do you need from me?

Your first name, your date of birth and what you are releasing, in your own words. One true sentence is enough. I read every line you write.

What can I expect?

A ritual held with care on the day you order, a report written for you alone, and afterwards I check in with you. I promise no outcome: this is spiritual guidance, offered for entertainment purposes, alongside good support from the people around you and never instead of it. What I give you is my full attention, and a clear beginning.

Go gently. You are allowed to have your energy back.
