The shortest day of the year, held at my table on Monday 21 December: one line for what you leave in the old year, one for what you carry into the new. Also as a gift. Only this month.
The darkest day of the year is a day of turning at my table. From the 21st the light comes back, a minute at a time, whether anyone notices or not. I like to notice. People have marked this day for as long as they have watched the sun. The great stones of Newgrange in Ireland are set so that the first light of the solstice morning reaches the heart of the chamber. The Yule log burned through the longest night, and candles still stand in windows from Sweden to Ireland. It is the day for deciding what stays behind in the dark, and what walks with you into the light.
When
Held on Monday 21 December, the day of the winter solstice. Order until Sunday 20 December; on the 21st this page closes, and the ritual is not held again this year. Your report is in your inbox the day after, on the 22nd, two days before the full moon of Christmas Eve.
What happens at my table
The shortest day of the year is my favourite turning point. Everything is at its darkest, and from that day on the light returns, a little more each day. It is the natural moment to decide what stays behind and what comes with you.
On the solstice, Monday 21 December, your name goes on paper at my table with two lines in your own words: what you leave in the old year, and what you carry into the new one. Evergreen, an orange studded with cloves and sunstone for the returning light lie beside it, and on the shortest day a candle is lit in the dark. I speak both lines aloud, the first as already put down, the second as already yours, and I keep the flame company until the dark feels lighter.

See it, feel it, draw it in
Write your second line as if it is already true: "I carry the courage to open my studio." See the year it belongs to, feel what it is like to live in it, and you begin to walk towards it. What you hold in your mind with feeling, you draw towards you like a magnet. That is the law of attraction, and the solstice is simply the day half the world practises it at once, by lighting a candle against the dark and trusting the light to return.
Twelve nights, twelve lines
Because this is the ritual of the month, your report carries something extra: twelve nights, twelve lines: one short line for each of the nights between Christmas and the new year, which the old calendars kept apart for looking ahead, to read and carry with you through the turn of the year. Written in my words for your year. Nothing to print, nothing to buy.

What if I miss the 20th?
The page closes on the 21st and this ritual is not held again this year. The New Moon Intention Ritual is held every new moon, and the Year Ahead Reading is written within the hour, all year round.
I live in the southern hemisphere. Does it still fit?
Yes. For you the 21st is the longest day, and the ritual is held as the turning of the year all the same: what you leave, and what you carry.
What can I expect, honestly?
