For the moment the boxes are in and the rooms still feel like someone else's. Or for the home you have lived in for years that deserves a clean page after a hard season. A house becomes a home when it is welcomed, and that is what I do at my table: I bless the threshold, the rooms and everyone who sleeps there. It is also a warm housewarming gift for someone who has just been handed their keys.

What happens at my table
A house becomes a home slowly, and a blessing helps it along. People write to me in the middle of boxes and keys, or from rooms they have lived in for years and want to begin again in. What I have learned is that a home remembers how it is treated, and that a first gesture of care changes how it feels.
The town, what you call your home and the names of everyone who lives there go on my table, with bread and salt, a sprig of rosemary for the threshold and a candle for the hearth. I speak the blessing aloud in the present tense: this home, warm, safe, full of good sleep and good company. I stay with it until the rooms feel settled, and I notice what the flame does when I name each of you.
Your report tells you what I felt around your home and what I worked with, and gives you a small threshold ritual with bread and salt to do at your own front door.
What I hold
Bread and salt carried over a new threshold, so the house never knows hunger and life there never loses its flavour. A new broom, because the old one carries the dust of the old house. A candle in the window on the first night. People have blessed their homes for as long as they have had doors to close. The old ways knew what the law of attraction teaches: a home answers to what you expect of it. See the evenings you want in these rooms, feel the ease of coming home as if it is already yours, and you draw it in like a magnet. I hold that picture with you. Can I give it as a housewarming gift?
Yes. Give me their first names and the town. Your report arrives in your inbox, so you can print it and hand it over with a loaf of bread and a small jar of salt.
